June 26, 2007 - Meeting Notes
The meeting was
called to order a few minutes late. Seems they
were all waiting for me to land. Sorry.
Dave Q. read the notes from the May
meeting, there were no corrections or
additions to be made. He then read the
treasurer's report which was accepted without any
changes or modifications.
Old Business:
Wings of Mercy: We raised $222
for the Wings Of Mercy, roughly $60 more than
last year. The raffle for the electric trainer
was won by Don Wilson.
The solar frequency sniffer project: The
parts required are on order, once they arrive it
will only take a few short minutes to make it
work. The sniffer will be mounted on the
frequency board for an additional tool to make
sure your frequency is not being used.
UPDATE:
July 3, 2007: The frequency sniffer
and the solar panel have arrived. I have bench
tested it, and everything is working just fine.
We'll never have to worry about putting batteries
in the unit. (There are none) Occasionally we'll
want to take a little windex on a rag & wipe
off the solar panel, but that's it.
Glen reported that the transmission on
that donated mower is completely destroyed. The
club has approved him to spend up to $100 for a
used transmission if he is able to find one. He
says the transmission is a very common
transmission and it shouldn't be a problem.
The PCRC Fun Fly on June 24th:
We all had a good time. I think that there was
only one incident of someone turning on a radio
while someone else was flying on that frequency.
That'd be me (Todd) killing Bill's trainer.
Lesson learned. Thanks Joe for having a
replacement on hand! All in all it was a good
time. We had a 50/50 raffle which was won by
Kevin Ogren - a non member planning and hoping to
get in on the action soon.
The Wolverine Skyhawks made a showing. They
brought some nice planes and a couple of rockets.
We're only guessing that one of them was helium
filled the way it floated back to the ground!
Wolverine skyhawks website is: http://www.wolverineskyhawks.com/skyhawks/ for anyone wanting to look.
NEW Business:
Bill D. came up with an idea for irrigating the
field. Instead of purchasing a new pump, we
simply tap into the waste water's system. Using a
large (and long) irrigation line running all the
way over to our field. There is of course the
issue of permission, and if they allow us to do
it we have allocated $600 for the project.
Todd brought up the idea of putting a small foot
bridge across the ditch. There are a lot of new
pilots who are of course losing airplanes and
sometimes they do make it out into no-man's land.
There are also experienced pilots losing their
planes over there occasionally too. With none of
us being as young as we think we are - crossing
that pipe is not something we really should be
doing. Todd will check on the price of lumber and
get a plan together for building a simple foot
bridge for safer crossings when (not if) we need
to cross.
UPDATE:
6-27-07: The bridge can be built at 2ft wide
x 16ft long for $85.66 +/- a few bucks. If you
have lost an airplane to the other side of the
ditch and you think this is a good idea - please
email: toddogren@sbcglobal.net . If you think this is
a dumb idea - please email me & let me know
your thoughts there too. - Todd Ogren
More new members were voted in this month. I
didn't get their last names, but their first
names are: Don, Randy & Mike. Welcome to the
club guys.
The meeting was adjourned with plenty of time to
spare for a few flights.
